Priyanka Chopra Becomes Latest Deepfake Victim after Alia & Rashmika
Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas has become the latest victim of the Deepfake technology. The video of the actress is buzzing on the internet, which comes days after Alia Bhatt, Kajol, and Rashmika Mandanna’s deepfake video.
The viral video shows, the actress is promoting brands and giving investment ideas. However, her voice has been edited and the original lines have been replaced with a fake brand promotion.
Recently, a deepfake video of actress Alia Bhatt became viral, where her face is edited over a different lady. The lady can be seen sitting on the bed, wearing a blue floral co-ord set with Alia’s face, and also making some gestures towards the camera. Also, actress Rashmika Mandanna, Katrina Kaif, and Kajol’s deepfake video was seen online a few days ago.
For the unaware, a deepfake video is a type of synthetic media, that uses artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to create altered videos, replacing someone’s face or voice in an existing video.
A report from MIT stated, ‘’The term “deepfake” was first coined in late 2017 by a Reddit user of the same name. This user created a space on the online news and aggregation site, where they shared pornographic videos that used open-source face-swapping technology.’’
On this matter, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar met social media platforms earlier this week to review progress made by them in tackling misinformation and deepfakes, and asserted that advisories will be issued in the next two days to ensure 100 per cent compliance by platforms.
