Oscars 2024: Emma Stone, Billie Eilish & Others Takes Home Big
This year’s Oscars, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, took place in Los Angeles on Sunday. The 96th Academy Awards brought in several past winners to present the awards in their respective categories. Oscars are considered to be the biggest night in Hollywood, with the who’s who of the film industry competing for the prestigious honours. The entire ceremony was live broadcast on Disney+ Hoststar in India. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, a biopic drama, took home most of the awards, including the Best Picture. The other categories in which Oppenheimer won include Best Actor, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Supporting Actor, Best Original Score, and Best Editing. The Cillian Murphy-led drama took the majority of nominations, and it was nominated in 13 categories in the ceremony. Some of the other films that won were Barbie, Poor Things and The Zone of Interest.
After seven years of her first win in the ‘Best Actress’ category in the movie ‘La La Land’, Emma Stone won her second award in the same for her role in “Poor Things.” Stone played a child-like woman who embarks on a journey of self-discovery in the steampunk fantasy. She thanked her director Yorgo Lanthimos, with whom she concluded another movie called “Kinds of Kindness,” while also speaking about the collaborative nature of cinema. She said, “The best part about making movies is all of us together. I am so deeply honoured to share this with every cast member, with every crew member, with every single person who poured their love and their care and their brilliance into the making of this film.”
On the other hand, Billie Eilish became the youngest artist to be a two-time Oscar recipient at the age of 22 and created history. She won Oscars 2024 for the Best Song for her “Barbie” ballad “What Was I Made For?” She co-wrote this song with her brother, Finneas O’Connell. The duo had previously bagged an Oscar for writing a theme for 2021’s “No Time To Die.” Meanwhile, Hayao Miyazaki became the oldest Oscar recipient this year with a win in the Best Animated Feature for “The Boy and the Heron.” The 83-year-old animation maestro had previously won for 2002’s “Spirited Away.”
