Deepika Padukone to Present at BAFTA 2024

India’s favourite actress in Bollywood, Deepika Padukone, has been officially announced as one of the award presenters at the 2024 BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Awards). She took to social media to express her gratitude for being part of the auspicious annual event, which will be held on February 19.
Apart from the grand appearance of the Pathaan star, other award presenters include singer Dua Lipa, former England football star David Beckham, Andrew Scott, Emma Corrin, Gillian Anderson, Idris Elba, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Taylor Russell, Wonka Oompa Loompa, Hugh Grant, Cate Blanchett, Adjoa Andoh of Bridgerton fame, Emily in Paris fame Lily Collins, and more.
The BAFTA annual event was first hosted in 1949 and was formally called the British Academy Film Awards. The award event is facilitated to acknowledge the outstanding contributions to films in both the British and global film industries. This BAFTA 2024 award show is set to take place at the Royal Festival Hall in London. The award event will stream on the Lionsgate Play app, and the event will start at 1:30 AM IST on February 19.
Reports by Variety confirm that former BAFTA winners Emma Mackay and Jack O’Connell will be presenting The Rising Star Award. The contenders list for the 2024 Rising Star Award includes Phoebe Dynevor, Mia McKenna-Bruce, Ayo Edebiri, Jacob Elordi, and Sophie Wilde.
On the evening of February 19, the global affair is expected to be greeted with electrifying performances from various personalities, which include a special cover song performance by Hannah Waddingham and another impressive presentation by the English singer-songwriter, Sophie Bextor. She will be serenading the audience with her old track “Murder on The Dancefloor”, released way back in 2001. This song recently regained its fame after almost 24 years, thanks to the success of the comedy thriller film, Saltburn.
Global celebrities and public figures like Bradley Cooper, Cillian Murphy, Greta Gerwig, Barry Keoghan, Carey Mulligan, Christopher Nolan, Yorgos Lanthimos, and Celine Song are also expected to be a part of this star-studded evening.
In the 2023 Oscar Award, Deepika Padukone also presented an award, reflecting the popularity of the Indian film Star. The Indian beauty’s fame significantly increased after SS Rajamouli’s movie ‘RRR’ won the Oscars in 2023 for the hit song “Naatu Naatu” in the Best Original Song category. During the Oscar award announcement, Deepika addressed the audience saying, “An irresistibly catchy chorus, electrifying beats and killer dance moves to match have made this next song a global sensation.”
Oppenheimer, the Epic Biographical Drama directed by Christopher Nolan, has received the highest number of nominations (13) at the BAFTA Film Awards. Meanwhile, the Gothic comedy film, ‘Poor Things’, by Yorgos Lanthimos, which is based on the murders of members of the Osage Nation in the 1920s, and ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ by Martin Scorsese received nine nominations each.
On the film front, Deepika Padukone has recently shared the screen with Hrithik Roshan for the movie ‘Fighter’, which is directed by Sidharth Anand, and faced many challenges at the box office. The star cast of the movie included Karan Singh Grover, Anil Kapoor, Akshay Oberoi, and Sanjeeda Shaikh, playing in important roles.
Padukone has also reportedly signed up for two upcoming projects – Kalki 2898 AD and Singham Again, which will be directed by Rohit Shetty. The important star cast of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ includes Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Disha Patani, and Kamal Haasan, representing important figures from Bollywood, Kollywood, and Tollywood. On the other hand, Singham Again will also feature the Southern beauty, who will be playing the important role of Shakti Shetty as a police officer. According to the Bollywood actress, this will be one of the most challenging roles for her.
