Actress Jenna & Emilia Receive Harper’s Bazar Women of the Year Awards

21-year-old Jenna Ortega and 37-year-old Emilia Clarke secured spots in the winners’ list of Harper’s Bazaar’s Annual Women of the Year event. The actresses including various other celebrities as well as personalities were present in the Awards show this year. This prestigious award is given to those who have achieved greater heights or milestones or have impressed the viewers with their talent and skills in the year 2023 or the past 12 months. 

Star personalities including ‘Sex in the City’ actress Kim Cattrall, Oscar award recipient Olivia Colman, and King Kong movie actress Naomi Watts were the ones who presented the awards to the awardees at this luxurious fashion magazine’s award ceremony that was held in London’s Claridge Hotel. Emilia Clarke received an award for her extensive career in both TV and Film and Jenna Ortega was awarded the breakthrough medal or award for the character she played in the popular and globally hit Netflix’s original series ‘Wednesday.’ 

Alessia Russo, athlete and footballer of Arsenal and England was presented with a sports award for her scoring a goal in the semi-final for Lioness in the World Cup 2023. When asked about winning in the interview with PA news agency, she said that she is just a normal football player but the award comes with the profession she thinks. She continues by adding that she is proud of how far women’s football has advanced and developed in this era and how people are pushing it forward with their passion for this game. Furthermore, she said that she and the team along with various other women football players are doing the right thing if they are inspiring the people of this generation. 

Other than this, Barbie movie actress and filmmaker Emerald Fennel received an award for her amazing film direction which includes the movies Promising Young Woman and Saltburn which are set to release later this month. During her speech at the award show, she said “I mean there’s nothing in the world that I love more than women. It’s just a real pleasure to be in a room with so many people I admire and it’s just such an honor and a thrill.” 

On top of this, songwriter and singer, Janelle Monae received an award in the music category for having released the album The Age Of Pleasure this year. The Artist Award was bagged by Serbian artist Marina Abramovic for her extensive contribution to the field of arts and also for her decades-long career. She is currently exhibiting her artwork at the Royal Academy of Arts which is an art gallery located in London.

Meanwhile, Maggie O’Farrell took away the Writer Award for exceptional works in the field of Literature. Especially, the book Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell released in the year 2020 has been adapted into a stage show and is now being adapted into a movie soon.

In the Philanthropy department, actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw received an award for her numerous humane work and contributions as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the UN refugee agency. Patsy Steveson secured the Campaigner Award for promoting and preaching women’s rights. 

The other awardees of this event include Tory Burch who received the Designer Award for her contribution to revolutionizing the world of luxury fashion and lifestyle over the past 20 years and Camille Cottin who took away the Editor’s Choice Award for the year 2023.
