Jennifer Lopez to Lead ‘Kiss of The Spider Woman’ Musical
Star of the ‘Hustlers’ movie, singer Jennifer Lopez is set to lead the musical version movie of the 1933 Broadway musical “Kiss of the Spider Women.”This musical adaptation is directed and written by the same director who worked on the popular musicals “Beauty and a Beast” and “Dreamgirls,” Bill Condon as per the reports from the publication site, Deadline. The 1933 Broadway musical is a work of John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Terrence McNally which is based on a novel of the same name written by Manuel Puig. The novel has already been adapted into a movie in 1985, featuring William Hurt and Raul Julia.
The movie is set in an Argentinian prison in the year 1981 where the protagonist Luis Molina, a gay hairdresser gets arrested for the corruption of a minor. In there, Molina conjures up Aurora (Jennifer Lopez) in imaginary stories spun by the protagonist. Aurora is a vampy film diva. The story takes a turn when a new cellmate appears, Valentin Arregui Paz, who is a Marxist political prisoner. Luis imagines Aurora as a form of escapism from the statement including Aurora being a spider woman. The movie creators and the entire film crew are on a hunt for someone to play the character of Luis Molina. The expected shoot of this film will begin in April 2024, in New Jersey.
The production crew of this upcoming movie will be Barry Josephson, Tom Kirdahy, Greg Yolen, and Matt Geller. In addition to these, Jennifer Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, and Benny Medina will be on the executive producing team on behalf of Nuyorican Productions.
The Broadway Musical Adaptation featuring Chita Rivera has earned 7 Tony Awards including the Best musical Award by the Entertainment Weekly. Later on, singer and actress Vanessa Williams took on the position of Chita Rivera on Broadway Run. An article from Variety magazine stated that the described candidate for the role of Luis Molina represents an openly queer and effeminate gay man but the role might also be on the non-binary or the trans femme continuum. This will be Jennifer Lopez’s debut mark in the movie musical.
The 54-year-old, Jennifer Lopez is also preparing for the release of her upcoming album “This is Me… Now,” which is a sequel to her previously released album “This is Me… Then,” that released on 2002, February 16. His album covers Lopez’s chronicles of the emotional, spiritual, and psychological journey over the past two decades. According to a teaser of the album ‘This is Me… Now’, Lopez is spotted revisiting an old letter that is being thrown into the fireplace right after. The singer narrates the clip saying, “When I was a little girl, when someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, my answer was always… in love.” This album follows her marriage with Ben Affleck in July 2022, to whom the previous album was dedicated.
