The actress recalls the time when her grandmother and mother used to keep expensive sarees for many years. Sonam addressed all her audiences to invest in clothes that can be re-styled in different ways and for a quite long time. According to her, it is a great idea to flaunt the thought of vintage clothes. She told people should be conscious and go for re-use, re-wear, and repeat the same outfits.
The global fashion icon also said that she is among those who wear her every outfit for multiple times. According to the actress, for her, the definition of luxury is something that has longevity. She has seen her grandma keeping expensive sarees like muslin. She is the one who is fond of personalized items made by local designers. She has grown up seeing other ladies in her family. She recalls the time when tailor used to take body measurements for outfits and shoes. From then she started showing interest in handmade clothes.
Sonam Kapoor says, “To me, having a product with longevity is luxury. Back in the day, my mother and grandmother would preserve expensive sarees in a mal mal (muslin) cloth, masterji (tailor) would create made-to-measure outfits, juttis (shoes) would be created to fit our feet. I’m also doing the same. So, you see, I grew up appreciating the value of personalization and the handmade. This, to me, is a true luxury. I consciously buy items that are made by local artisans, are vintage, and are even resold.”
Sonam says the outfits she buys she makes sure that they can be worn multiple times, which she does regularly, as the actress does not believe in wearing an outfit only once until and unless she is borrowing the clothes to attend any particular event, show, or parties.
The actress further said, “I haven’t bought anything that I haven’t worn multiple times. For me, everything that I buy needs to be wearable for several years. I don’t believe in wearing it once and then returning it unless I’m borrowing an outfit for an event.”
