IFFI 2023: Madhuri Dixit Receives Special Recognition Award
Legend Actress of Bollywood and diva of Indian cinemas, Madhuri Dixit has been honored with the prestigious and honorary award at the 54th International Film Festival of India, held in Panaji, Goa. The official announcement was released with huge praise and applause for her sheer and unparalleled talent in the Indian film industry. Shri Anurag Thakur, Union Minister of Sports and Broadcasting, made the announcement as he took it to his Twitter handle and shared the news.
Along with MoS Information & Broadcasting, Dr. L. Murugan, and Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Shri Anurag Thakur expressed his thoughts as he wrote on his Twitter that Madhuri Dixit is an iconic actress and a diva who has blessed the audience with her graceful performance and impressive talent for over four decades. From playing the bubbly character Nisha who is full of vim and vigour to the bewitching and eye-catching Chandramukhi, the magnificent character of Begum Para to strong-willed and lionhearted Rajjo, the actress has played a spectrum of characters that proudly shows off her versatility in the performance. He congratulated her on winning the honorary ‘Special Recognition for Contribution to Bharatiya Cinema’ at the 54th International Film Festival of India. The talented, charismatic actress gave a different meaning to the word excellence in Indian cinema with her performance.

The International Film Festival of India is back with its 54th edition which is IFFI 2023 at Panaji, Goa. The 9-day event commenced its start at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium filled with stars from across the world on the 20th of November 2023. Not only Madhuri Dixit, but Vijay Sethupathi, Sara Ali Khan, Pankaj Tripathi, Sunny Deol, Karan Johar, Shantanu Moitra, Shreya Ghoshal, and Sukhwinder Singh are also present on the guest list among various other stars in the 9-day gala event.
As per the press release of a note from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the opening film of the gala was Catching Dust, a thrill-filled directed by British filmmaker and multi-award holder Stuart Gatt.
According to the same report, French director and filmmaker Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s About Dry Grasses is going to be aired mid-week during the fest. About Dry Grasses is a Turkish-language drama film. Robert Kolodny’s The Featherweight is selected to be the closing film of the 54th edition of IFFI. The Featherweight is a 2023 American biographical sports drama film starring James Madio as professional boxer Willie Pep.
Indian Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani will be the head of the panel of five jury members for the best web series (OTT) award at the festival. Other members of the panel for the inaugural category include Divya Dutta, Prosenjit Chatterjee, and filmmakers Krishna DK and Utpal Borpujari. There are a total of 32 entries taken from 10 languages across the world for OTT awards or the best web series award in the event. Anurag Thakur said that India has witnessed growth and a hike in the OTT industry and platforms since the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic. The original content created in India is serving as a middleman of job opportunities for thousands of people. The best web series or the OTT award section was presented in response to the rapid and progressive growth of the OTT content which brings 28 percent annually. This award is to honor the excellence and outstanding performance of content creators on OTT platforms.
