Asian Games 2023: Indian Women’s 10m Air Rifle Team Secures Silver Medal
The trio of the Indian Women’s Air Rifle team, Ramita, Mehuli Ghosh, and Ashi Chouksey bagged the silver medal in the women’s 10m Air Rifle team event in the 19th Asian Games on Sunday, held at Hangzhou, China. This was the first medal secured by Indians in the 19th Asian Games as the trio displayed remarkable marksmanship, earning recognition for their impeccable performance on Sunday. India won a silver medal in the Women’s 10 Metre Air Rifle with a score of 1886 points with the trio Ramita finishing with 631.9 points, Mehuli 630.8 points, and Ashi 623.3 points.
The Air Rifle trio, Ramita, Ghosh, and Ashi finished second position, fifth position, and 29th position respectively. The 2nd and fifth position holders Ramita and Mehuli qualified for the finals of the individual Air rifle event. In there, the 19-year-old Ramita Jindal shot 230.1 in the final at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre securing a Bronze medal along with Mehuli securing fourth place with 208.3 points. China’s Yuting Huang claimed gold with 252.7 points whereas previous world champion Jiayu Huan bagged the silver medal with 251.3 points.
In response to securing the silver medal for India, Ashi Chouksey proudly stated that her team was sure to secure a medal in the event. She said that it was a proud moment for her team to claim a silver medal for the country. “It’s a very proud moment for us that it’s the first medal for the Asian Games. We were prepared and confident that we would get a medal. This is my first medal for the Air Rifle. I am happy for the medal…” expressed Ashi to Asian News International (ANI).

In addition to this, China’s Han Jiayu set a new Qualification record of 634.1 points surpassing the previous record set by fellow countrywoman Zhao Ruozhu in the 18th Asian Games held in New Delhi in the year 2019.
Presently, India has claimed 2 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 6 bronze medals so far. The Indian Women’s Cricket Team successfully claimed the gold medal in the Asian Games 2023 by defeating Sri Lanka in the finals. The Men’s 10m Air Rifle team established a whole new world record score of 1893.7 by securing a gold medal in the 19th Asian Games at Hangzhou. Along with that, the Indian Men’s Rowing team secured three Bronze medals in the finals in three different categories of Rowing. On top of that, we secured three bronze medals in the individual category of shooting in both men’s and women’s 10m air rifle shooting.
The shooting events at Asian Games 2023 will be going on till October 1, 2023. A total of 33 Gold medals are allocated in the categories of shotgun, rifle, and pistol. Apart from these, several other games are yet to be held in the following days providing lots of opportunities to bag up medals by players for their nation.
